It is a non contagious ailment caused by the Malassezia furfur fungus which selectively afflicts mainly the back and the chest.
It is identifiable, after exposure to the sun, by light brown and dark spots, with in between discoloured spots. It manifests itself mainly on young individuals of both sexes.
